Today it was a privilege to be interviewed by Trent Ray founder of Cyber Safety Project for a podcast episode coming out soon. We focused on ow parents / caregivers can support their child’s digital well-being.
We covered vital aspects of how to build resilience, practice gratitude, and foster empathy in the digital age. Here are some highlights:
– Building Resilience: We discussed strategies for helping children learn from online setbacks, emphasising the importance of open communication and setting realistic digital goals.
– Cultivating Gratitude: We talked about how parents can encourage children to recognise and appreciate positive online interactions, fostering an atmosphere of thankfulness in their digital journeys, as well as being grateful for the unbelievable opportunities the online world offers us, when we use it in the right way.
– Empathy Online: We explored ways to help young people understand the feelings of others in the digital space, enhancing their emotional intelligence and promoting kinder interactions.
– Dealing with Cyberbullying: The session highlighted how resilience, gratitude, and empathy can be powerful tools in addressing and overcoming cyberbullying.
– Digital Downtime: We talked about the crucial role of breaks from digital devices in maintaining mental and emotional health, encouraging regular ‘digital detoxes’, time blocking and planned off line activities.
– Modelling Digital Behaviour: As role models, parents’ online behaviours are pivotal. We discussed how demonstrating positive digital interactions can guide children effectively.
– Reflective Online Practices: The importance of reflecting on the impact of one’s digital footprint was a key focus, urging parents to help their children think critically about their online behaviour.
